Pharmacology
Pharmacology department trains the students in subjects like Anatomy, Physiology & Path physiology, Pharmacology & Toxicology. Students are given facilities to understand different systems of Human Anatomy & their functions & pathology with tools like models, charts, permanent slides, bones, skeletons, etc. Here students learn about general pharmacology, drug dose, mechanism of action of drugs, screening of drugs, etc. Pharmacology Labs are well equipped with Rotarod, Pole Climbing Apparatus, Convulsiometer, Analgesiometer, etc. & Computer software for the basic demonstration of Pharmacology experiments is provided.
Pharmacognosy
Pharmacognosy is an applied science which is concerned with acquiring knowledge of crude drugs by the application of various scientific disciplines.
It deals with the scientific study of structural, physical, chemical & sensory characters of crude drugs obtained from plant, animal & mineral source. It also includes the study of their history, distribution, cultivation, collection, preparation, identification, evaluation, preservation & commerce. Well-equipped laboratory is totally designed according to the practical being conducted.
Dept. of Pharmacognosy aims at improving the basic concepts like identification & authentication of plants of various families.
Pharmaceutics
PHARMACEUTICS is a branch of the pharmacy field that carries the impression of pharmacy profession:
In general, it encompasses the areas that involve designing, formulating and presenting a therapeutically useful chemical entity in a most appropriate drug delivery system such as tablets, capsules, syrups, etc. Pharmaceutics endeavours to make administration of medicine compliant and effective for the patient. The comprehensive study of this subject necessitates the integration of physical, chemical and biological principles, as applicable to all the components of drug delivery systems. In the present scenario, the discovery of new drug entities has enabled the development of new drug delivery systems, advanced production processes and the latest machinery for the manufacture of superior quality products providing wide scope to the research and development in this field. This subject along with its related subjects is well distributed in the B.Pharm. Curriculum. Pharmaceutics deals with the study of various dosage forms, cosmetics, etc and related manufacturing processes. Modern Dispensing Practices deals with contemporary principles and practices in the dispensing of medication. Physical Pharmacy deals with the application of Physico-chemical principles in designing of dosage form and drug action. Pharmaceutical Microbiology gives an idea of the various aspects of microorganisms, their role in the pathogenesis of the disease, the effect on formulation and industrial applications. Biopharmaceutics involves the study of different factors such as biological, physicochemical and formulation aspects that influence the therapeutic efficiency of a drug.
Pharmaceutical Chemistry
Pharmaceutical chemistry is an interdisciplinary science, which has seen enormous growth in the past decade. Traditionally accepted as a branch of organic chemistry, the subject has reached a tremendous level of complexity today. It involves many aspects like synthesis, isolation, purification and characterization of anticipated organic compounds that can be used in medicine for the treatment and cure of diseases. On the other hand it establishes a link between chemical structure and biological activity. Medicinal Chemist plays a very crucial role in the design and development of selective, potential, non-toxic, new chemical entities which meet all the desired pharmacokinetic properties. Analytical Chemistry deals with qualitative and quantitative techniques of analysis. The special emphasis is on application in research and in industry.
Laboratory is well equipped with state of the art instruments to give hands on experience to the students.
